Hed College of Music

Hed College of Contemporary Music in Israel is an accredited college affiliated with Oklahoma City University in the United States. Located in Tel Aviv, the College was established ten years ago and today enrolls approximately 150 students. Unique to other institutions that do not offer the breadth of musical options, Hed College responds to the need in Israeli society to fill the void of music professionals. Hed College plays an important role in the contemporary Israeli music scene as it helps to process and refine the raw talent of Israeli musicians.

The purpose of the College is to educate musicians interested in the fields of jazz, Pop and rock, with related areas such as, sound engineering, computers, film scoring and electronic music. Classical music elements serve as the basis combined with popular music to create a full-rounded academic curriculum. Hed expands the students’ focus and provides them with skills to work in diverse fields from: education, advertising, performance musicians, television and film.

History

Hed College of Contemporary Music was first established in the city of Yehud in 1990. Eight years later, the College relocated to Tel Aviv but the vision remained the same. As the founder and Director of Hed, Yehuda Cohen, states, "Hed College was built to foster and create professional musicians. The belief that musicians need to struggle and live in poverty to actualize their art does not have to be a reality. At Hed, our goal is to give our students the most practical skills and high standard of learning so that they may professionally pursue music as a career. "

As the tenth anniversary of Hed College in Tel Aviv approaches, it symbolizes more than the actualization of the vision of the Director.  Located in the music capital of Israel, Tel Aviv, Hed College of Contemporary Music stands poised as a respected leader in propelling the new wave of professional musicians in Israel and abroad.
